There have been multiple conflicting reports involving the 76ers' interest in one All-Star free agent.
The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be one of the main teams this offseason that are expected to be extremely active. The 76ers are scheduled to be one of the few teams that have real cap space to spend and general manager Daryl Morey has said that he plans to change up the core of the team.
Philadelphia has star center Joel Embiid to build around and the team wants to keep All-Star point guard Tyrese Maxey, who is a restricted free agent this summer.The plan for the 76ers is to add more talent around these two players which could include them going down the three-star route. Philadelphia has been linked to multiple star players this offseason already, but the one with the most noise has been Los Angeles Clippers forward Paul George.George can become a free agent this offseason and has made it clear that he wants a max deal going forward. However, to this point, the Clippers haven't been willing to give him the deal he covets, opening the door for his departure.Within this, the 76ers could steal George away to set up a three-headed monster of him, Embiid, and Maxey. However, we are getting conflicting reports regarding the interest of the 76ers in the nine-time All-Star. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 76ers' interest in George has waned and they are expected to look elsewhere this offseason.But Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports has reported that he wouldn't discount the 76ers in the George sweepstakes. Philadelphia has long had interest in adding George so the news about their interest going away was interesting, to say the least.At this point, we have conflicting reports, which makes for great drama. George would work well in Philadelphia if he were to depart Los Angeles and adding him would make the 76ers even more of a contender. George likely prefers to remain with the Clippers, but contract negotiations could get in the way.George is eligible to re-sign with the Clippers at any time but is likely to test the free agency waters. He still believes that he is a max-level player in the NBA and if some team is willing to pay him, he may jump at the chance to earn a large contract. This will likely be the final big contract of his career so he will likely be looking to take advantage of that fact.
