The Special Jurisdiction for Peace has ruled to confiscate several assets, including properties and commercial premises, linked to the singer Charlie Zaa. The JEP determined that these assets were purchased with funds from the criminal activities of the 'Bloque Tolima' paramilitary group, which operated in the region in the late 90s and early 2000s.
In a ruling that exposes the abuses suffered by residents of various Tolima municipalities from the late 90s to the early 2000s, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace ( JEP) decided to confiscate part of the assets linked to the well-known singer Charlie Zaa.
These assets, which include properties and commercial premises, were reportedly acquired by the singer with money from the now-defunct 'Bloque Tolima' paramilitary group. The group, which operated in the south and eventually the east of the department, engaged in forced displacement, murder, extortion, and other crimes. The JEP's decision, spanning 290 pages, reveals the extent of the violence used to gain territorial control and the alliances formed between the paramilitaries and local businessmen and security forces.
