- ROME, OCT 6 - Government ministers are to soon receive"guidelines" from Premier Giorgia Meloni in order to "quickly start" the process of reviewing their public expenditure, cabinet undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano is reported to have said during a cabinet meeting on Thursday evening.
Last month Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti announced a new public spending review amounting to 2 billion euros in cuts in 2024,"including those that have already been foreseen". Meloni said she agreed with Giorgetti's request"to invite each ministry to check in detail the resources currently spend, the spending chapters, the measures currently financed".
Separately, on Thursday the cabinet also decided to extend by six months the state of emergency declared on April 11 in relation to the increase in the number of migrants and refugees arriving in Italy by sea from north Africa.
