Over half of Brits are kept up most nights because of stress at work
According to the study, it now takes the average worker 40 minutes of tossing and turning to finally get to sleep after turning the light out. We then wake up a further three times during the night in a panic about pressing deadlines, issues with the boss, or fellow colleagues making things difficult for us.
In fact, the study found that lateness alone costs Britain at least 221 million working hours every single year, with a separate report from Round Europe published in 2016 indicating fatigue costs the UK economy £40 billion every year. This leads to a plethora of problems at work. While four out of ten people say they aren’t as productive, the troubles go even deeper: 35 percent of people say they get so tired they can’t concentrate, with the same number claiming they don’t perform as well as they should due to sheer exhaustion.
Andy Baxter, Product Manager from Philips Hue, says: “The research proves the importance of a good night’s sleep and waking up feeling refreshed. There is help out there to prepare you for sleep and help you wake up more easily.”
