- ROME, OCT 4 - No one wants to repeat the 'years of lead' of the conflict between politics and the magistracy, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said Wednesday on a row over a ruling that deemed illegitimate parts of two government migrant decrees spurring criticism by the government of the judge involved.
"No one wants to repeat the years of lead of conflict between politics and the judiciary," Nordio said at question time in he House, ruling out an institutional clash over the case of Catania judge Iolanda Apostolico. Government officials including Premier Giorgia Meloni have criticised Apostolico with the righwing League party saying she acted out of bias, allegedly shown by her social media posts in favour of NGOs and against League leader, Deputy Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, a former interior minister on trial for closing Italy's ports to NGO run migrant rescue ships.
