- ROME, NOV 12 - Remembrance of the fallen is a duty above all towards the younger generations, so that they might know and admire the example of those who have given their lives to build peace, said Premier Giorgia Meloni on the day of remembrance for military and civilian fallen in international peace missions, which coincides with the 20th anniversary of the bomb attack on the Italian military base at Nassiriya in Iraq.
"November 12, 2003 is a day that will remain forever engraved in the national memory," she continued. "The Italian people will never forget what happened in Nassiriya 20 years ago, the most serious terrorist attack against Italy in international peacekeeping missions in crisis areas," the premier added.
"Today's anniversary is an opportunity to express, once again, the Government's pride in the men and women, the armed forces and civilian personnel, who are engaged in peace missions and who, through their commitment, dedication and professionalism, honour the tricolour every day," said Meloni.
"The government turns its thoughts in particular to those Italians serving in the most complex scenarios and who, in the light of recent international events, have to deal with extremely critical situations involving the assumption of great risks and responsibilities," concluded Meloni. .
