Post office operators are awaiting details on a reported State subvention of up to €12,000 per year, which they say is needed to help them keep their doors open
Seona Fegan is the western spokesperson for the Irish Postal Union and runs two post offices in the village of Barna and Fr Griffin Road on the outskirts of the city.
According to Seona Fegan, uncertainty surrounding the future livelihood of these businesses has been influenced by changes in consumer habits and a loss of traditional business. Post offices saw a brief spike in business during the Covid-19 pandemic as a more diverse group of people were using the service and posting the"old-fashioned" way.
